That friend-of-a-friend

It’s most strange but I’m feeling more thoughtful today. Looking back is a strange experience sometimes. You see a snapshot of yourself. That was the “me” who wrote that way back when — even though it’s only a few weeks, it’s sometimes hard to recognize yourself.

Back in the Stone Age when times were good

So there we are, huddling round the dining table with our portions looking larger because they’re on small plates. We’ve also started to look out for sugar in our diet. And our will is strengthening because, so far, we haven’t really challenged ourselves.

We’ve started to take our phentermine, Acomplia or Meridia. We’re slowly reducing our sugar intake. It’s the first plateau.

Plateau? I hear you mutter.

As you climb a hill, there’s steady effort to move your weight up the incline. But, once the routine is established, you fall into the rhythm and it grows easier. Well, it actually becomes so easy after a while that it’s like you’re walking on the flat again. And your body goes into a steady state, neither gaining nor losing weight. There was that initial slight loss when you started, but then your weight stabilized at the slightly lower level.

The “Cut down on sugar” Rule

So picture the scene if you can. We’re now all sitting round the dining table — we’re old-fashioned and prefer to sit down at a table and talk to each other while we’re eating. None of these TV dinners where you balance a tray on your knees and chase peas round the plate with a fork. We’ve all got our smaller plates so we can keep a better informed eye on how much we’re eating and wondering what to do next. So, I’m holding forth, telling you what to do.

That first step

I’m just going to catch up with the story in my head before I go on with the new. I’ve had my road to Damascus moment, talked it through with my doctor and, now with the help of my family friends, I’ve made the start on losing those pounds.
